Elegy for Nature

Climate Poems

A large part of my practice is situated on poetry and creative writing. I use these techniques to translate an often-scientific situated topic; the climate crisis; into a relatable and artistic medium.

m.a.d

mutually assured destruction

we’re going nuclear

ecological trauma

incomprehensible heartache

greenwashed lies

sore lands bleed

rivers flow black

silenced cries buried

lost souls wonder

across the abyss

solely shattered

nature unacquainted

heartbreak at sunset

set              set                 set

this warmth is what i dream of all year long

the heat of the fading sun, on every inch of our bare skin,

we twirled in the rays, each singing a different song,

blades of grass move with us, as we dance our favourite sin

cobwebs come to join us, golden strings of light

our lungs are set in pattern, like the cycle of the sun

each day the flowers sunbathe and each day they sleep at night

the petals crumble beneath me, gravity is outrun

we sink deeper into the swirling waves, i only seem to burn you

our hazel souls are haunted, destruction we have done

the smoke whispers stories, only half of them are true

you do not need us here, for the allergies have begun

tainted skies hang above me, old broken bones yearning

war of chaos sings, great unfathomable loss has come

this exulcerated release, leaves my cells gasping

great walls of white dissolve, fall, melt into to the bay

our scorched souls breathless, my heart is bound to break

poison turns blue to black, apologies wash away

my many hands lay on your throat, i cannot stop taking

my existence to you is murder, you pay for every breath

toxic storms i can’t control, the ground beneath is shaking

i only wanted to adore you, but I'm loving you to death

scorched

scorched droughts
desolate homes
broken ice
trampled trees
polluted skies
dead reefs
starved bones
forgotten snow
lawless worlds
